IAET-kassa was established in 1969 and has since become the second largest unemployment fund in Finland with close to 195 000 members. IAET's members are academically educated official and senior clerical workers mostly insured by affiliates of the Confederation of Unions for Academic Professionals in Finland (Akava).

IAET-kassa pays the following unemployment benefits:

• earnings-related allowance
• training allowance for a period of labour market training for adults and
  
• job alternation payment granted to those on job alternation leave.

All wage earners who live in Finland or are employed by a Finnish company abroad and

• have an engineering or construction architect diploma from a polytechnic or
• have a tradenomi diploma (Bachelor of Business and Administration) or
• have a degree of Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration or
• have a graduate engineer diploma or
• have a university diploma of pharmacy or Master of Science or
• have an academic degree of social work or social anthropology or
• have a diploma comparable to those mentioned above or
• work as a senior clerical worker, have not reached the age of 68 and

otherwise meet the requirements of membership are entitled to join IAET-kassa.

If you meet the requirements your membership will begin from the date your membership application is received by IAET-kassa. Remember that you can not be a member of two unemployment funds at the same time.

Resignation from IAET-kassa should be done in writing. Your membership will cease automatically when you reach the age of 68. The unemployment fund does not have information which of its members continue working after the age of 65, so the member has to decide whether or not he/she wants to keep the right to receive earnings-related allowance or job alternation payment by maintaining his/her unemployment fund membership. The membership fee is a yearly fee that the Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA) confirms annually. For the year 2010 the fee is 78 euro.

Summer 2010 holiday hours

IAET-kassa's phone service is open Monday - Thursday from 13:00 till 15:00 from June 6^th till August 27^th. The phone service is closed on Fridays all summer.

Our customer service in Itä-Pasila, Helsinki, is closed all July. In June and August the customer service is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 till 15:00 and on Fridays from 9:30 till 13:00. The customer service is closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

NB! The customer service is also closed on June 25^th.
